Equipment and tools

The CRTE uses modelling and simulation software and various hardware equipments within its research activities.

Modeling and simulation software

  • UMBERTO and SIMAPRO and openLCA for substance & energy flow management and life cycle assessment
  • MATLAB/Simulink and similar simulators for process modelling and optimization
  • Open source software GRASS GIS and R for spatial data management and geostatistics
  • TRNSYS for the simulation of thermal processes and systems (e.g. buildings)
  • National Instruments LabVIEW for measurement and control automation

Hardware equipment

  • Testing of photovoltaic panels under field conditions: meteorological measurement devices, Keithley DAQ-system and Kepco source-meters, controlled by adapted measurement LabVIEW application
  • Prototypes for wastewater treatment
  • On-line monitoring equipment e.g. for water quality or energy production and consumption
